Where Our Story Begins
The Lodge Brothers history stretches back to 1780, when James Lodge began a small funeral service in Feltham, Middlesex. At that time, he could not have known that his work would become a legacy spanning over 240 years and seven generations.
What began as one man helping neighbours in their time of need — became a long-standing family mission to serve local communities with dignity, compassion and respect.
Every generation has carried that promise forward.
That is the Lodge Family Difference.
Seven Generations of Service
Over the next two centuries, the business was passed from parent to child, each continuing the same commitment to care.

The Modern Era – Guided by Tradition
As the company grew, the Lodge family remained committed to local service. New chapels were opened across London, Surrey and Berkshire, always within local communities rather than distant central offices.
By the 2010s, Lodge Brothers had become one of the longest-standing independent funeral directors in the country, recognised for:
-
Consistent standards across every branch
-
Personal service from local teams
-
In-house control of all aspects of funeral care
-
Respect for tradition — with modern choice and flexibility
A New Chapter – Employee Ownership
In 2024, with the retirement of Beverley and Janet (2020) and Andrew stepping down as Director (2023), a major step was taken.
Lodge Brothers established an Employee Ownership Trust, ensuring that the future of the company remains:
-
Independent
-
Rooted in local people
-
Driven by values — not shareholders
-
Focused entirely on families
The Lodge family continue to play a guiding role, with Robert, Michael, Chris and Andrew serving as Directors or Board Trustees. But the company is now carried forward by the people who work in it every day — the team who deliver care to every family.
“Care should never be owned by profit — it should be owned by people.”
That is the heart of Lodge Brothers today.
